‘How is it that a camp like Guantanamo Bay can exist in our time?,’ ask artists Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri in their latest project, Camp Campaign, commissioned by New York’s Art in General. Last summer Anastas and Gabri visited detention camps and other types of camps in the USA, meeting with fellow artists, scholars, and activists. They recorded these field trips, generating a set of documents examining the country’s political landscape. They were particularly interested in the different manifestations of ’states of exception,’ as in the case of the government’s suspension of federal law in the establishment of the Guantanamo Bay camp. The artists built the website campcampaign.info to expand upon their project by regularly posting journalistic accounts of their activities and reference essays on the topic. Currently on view at Art in General, the Camp Campaign exhibition represents the culmination of this work. Anastas and Gabri have created [...]

How scandinavian of me…
Text by: Charlotte Mosen Jensen, The little garden / THE LITTLE GARDEN
Introduction:
Started in London 2001
How Scandinavian Of Me shows a work of art in questions of investigation and formed like the artist in the part as ‘tourist’ with the same recognisable objects, the white T-shirt and ‘how scandinavian of me’, standing bare-feeted on the small heap of danish chipped bark.
A travelling artist starting from touristrelated attractions in Europe.
This project has interest, because it tells about integration of scandinavic
mentality and put questions to other cultures values. The intergration of an
artist has here the focus on the traditionally high-lights of
touristattractions, [...]

TurntablistPC – CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
The Art Museum of West Zealand invites you to participate in TurntablistPC, an internet-connected physical art installation by artist Mogens Jacobsen on show now at the museum through April 9th 2007. You can participate via your website from today on (please see below).
We are seeking the participation of websites from as many different countries as possible, so please forward this message to other interested parties.

Installed in the museum space, the TurntablistPC will play a vinyl record whenever someone visits one of the participating websites around the world, including your website. A video projection of a world map will show where the participating party is from, thus generating a map of global, remote participation for the local visitors in the museum space.

The prolific and energetic Michel Gagné has just posted a small preview of Zed #8, featuring KRAH, the loudest heavy metal band in the universe. On top of having an epic 36-page story in Flight 4 and producing his own independent comic books, Michel has been hard at work on an upcoming animated feature film. As always, Michel continues to inspire and motivate the rest of us.

Hi All,
WE NEED YOUR VIDEO/COMPUTER GAMES VS. REAL LIFE VIDEOS!
My name is Misha and I’m a programmer for a film festival called BUDI film festival located in Busan, South Korea ( www.budi.org).
Currently, I’m working on putting together a special program named, “Reimagined: Computer Games as Culture” and we’re looking for related, quality content that could be screened in this one-time, 90-minute segment on April 25, 2007.
The idea behind this eclectic program is to show fragments, artistic shorts, fictional pieces and documentary chunks together in concert (80-120min segment total) that cast a light on how computer/video games are influencing our wider cultural vistas and also how some people playing games are ‘re-purposing’ and personalizing these spaces to fit their own tastes.
Find further thoughts and a (still short) blog at: http://my.opera.com/Budi2007/blog/
Let me know what you think and include any questions you have – [...]

The days of the designer super gym have arrived. Leading the pack is London?s GYMBOX; a new £5m mega gym located in the old Lumiere Cinema space at the St Martin’s Lane hotel. Providing a unique experience is paramount in the new generation of fitness centre and Gymbox succeeds in breaking the old mould, with live nightly DJs and quirky classes such as ‘Gladiator Games’ – where participants engage in exercises from the eponymous early 90s TV show – and the ‘Stiletto Workout,? performed in heels. The St Martins Gymbox is actually the second venue for the fitness centre brand, with the first opening in Holborn in 2004. Getting fit has never been so hip. Is there a super deluxe new gym, sports or fitness centre in your city that we should know about? Let us know as we would like to feature it in our print magazine. [...]

Mark Wolfe Contemporary Art presents “Jeremy Mora: Sculpture,” February 1st through March 23rd, 2007.
49 Geary Street, Suite 200
San Francisco, CA 94108
Mora, a Los-Angeles-based sculptor, creates miniature landscapes using humble materials. Mora draws inspiration from bonsai, dollhouses, dioramas, and architectural models, objects united, according to the artist, by their status as idealized miniature environments, where humans can exert “complete control” over nature. Mora’s vignettes push viewers to approach the landscape, not as a natural phenomenon of sublime grandeur, but as a cultural phenomenon, a place suffused with history.
An Arizona native, Mora graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004. Since his graduation, Mora has lived and worked in downtown Los Angeles. Mora has been in group exhibitions in Chicago and Los Angeles, and was recently featured at Pulse Miami (2006). In 2006, Mora held his first [...]

Presentation of the book: ‘Networking | The Net as an Artwork’
@ Transmediale :: Sunday 4/2, 16:00 :: Salon, Akademie der Kuenste, Berlin, D :: With Tatiana Bazzichelli [it/de], Jaromil [it/nl], Gaia Novati [it/de]; moderated by Diana McCarty [de].
Networking | The Net as an Artwork :: Written by Tatiana Bazzichelli, with the preface of Derrick De Kerckhove and the epilogue of the Italian videoartist Simonetta Fadda. The book represents a first tentative to write a comprehensive history of both analog and digital subcultural networked art in Italy, through an analysis of the realities which during the past twenty years have given way to a creative, shared and aware use of technologies – such as Mail Art, Neoism, the Luther Blissett project, BBS culture, Telestreets, and many other subcultural movements and networks.
The Italian network proposes a form of critical information, diffused through independent and collective projects. Active [...]
