Tarryn Teresa Gallery presents the debut solo exhibition of Los Angeles based artist Sunny Scarlett. This exhibition will run from June 2 through July 7. An opening reception will take place on Saturday June 2 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
Sunny Scarlett: Homebound features a new body of work that addresses issues of personal and national identity. Scarlett creates richly complex multi-planar collages, incorporating layers of finely etched glass, thousands of pieces of intricately cut and pinned paper, and politically charged imagery.
Exploiting the fragility of her media, Scarlett employs decorative and delicate materials such as glass, straight pins, and opulent fine paper to create ethereal assemblages that are at times guiltily beautiful. She integrates the ornamental aspect of her materials with a recurring visual vocabulary of symbols of the wealth of the United States—agriculture, oil, and currency—, but reversed or accompanied by images of roller coasters, birds [...]

Organic isn?t just a trendy buzzword anymore, savvy consumers demand
it, whether we?re talking about apples, chicken, cotton bed sheets and
even skincare. Melbourne duo Myke Christoffel and Lara Deutsch have
capitalized on the growing market for the latter with their boutique
organic skincare range Stem Organics. (http://www.stemorganics.com) Sales for natural and organic
personal care have doubled between 2002 and 2006, with 78% of adults in
developed countries preferring to use products over chemically derives
ones, so the brand hit the stores at the perfect time.
Interestingly Christoffel and Deutsch actually launched the brand in
the US first, selling through online retailers and more recently,
through hip lifestyle boutique chain Theory and Fred Seagal, where Stem
Organics is fast becoming a ?must have? brand among their urban, image
and health conscious customers.
The range takes a holistic approach to skincare utilizing organic plant
extracts, essential fatty acids, vitamins and Australian Bush Flower
essences that treat the emotions associated with skincare problems.
Interestingly it [...]

If a piece of furniture is colorful, handy, knock-down and made of
wood, does it have to be from Sweden? Not at all, proves Tischmich
(could be translated as ?Table me?), a table designed by Jakob Gebert
for the Germany-based Moormann (http://www.moormann.de).
Exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in Milan in April, Tischmich joins
the fun but practical line-up of Moormann furnishings that include
shelving units, tables, storage units, wardrobes, seating, lights and
few really wacky storage ?walls.?
What makes Tischmich so very practical and fun, is the clever legs. The
legs fold for storage under the top and the table is easy to assemble
by inserting the legs into the grooves that go right through the table
top. Made of birch and covered with red, blue or black linoleum,
Tischmich has a huge range of uses ? from boardroom to kids? room, from
kitchen to office. We can just picture three or four of the black
178-centimeter-long Tischmichs arranged end-to-end, forming an
impressive [...]

I’m a little behind on my post but here it is. Coit Tower, Sketchcrawlers lazer sighted on their targets.
Hurrah! Congratulations to all who participated in Sketchcrawl 14 and auction benefiting Emergency. There was such an air of anticipation on the Saturday crawl, our Emergency reps were there to send us off and hand out information to all about the Emergency mission. The hike to and up the Filbert Steps is always invigorating, I love seeing the reaction of people who’ve not been before. It is so worth climb. The Coit Tower perch offers quite a view but as always the best targets are fellow crawlers–they stay so still as they draw.
We were over 80 strong! We looked like protest rally, all we needed were placards.
We ended up at in China town after a lunch break at Washington Square. The last hour of the crawl that [...]

Upgrade! Berlin presents the European tour of Iliadahomero from Brazil
Brazilian composer & director Octavio Camargo from Curitiba shows together with Claudete Pereira Jorge an interpretation of the first chant of the Iliade, the epos of Homer.
The Iliade is known as the most ancient oeuvre of occidential literature. The 50-minutes monologue reveals the impact of this text as the source code of European culture.
The performance will be in Portuguese, but the underlying semiotics of this piece can be grasped beyond any language restraints. And that’s exactly the intention of this play: Homer is used here as a media and a vehicle for interaction in different platforms of language, thus projecting different translations to different idioms.
“I see language as a code” says Octavio Camargo, “and with this dramatic piece, we want to share this code with our audience. I believe that the texts of Homer can provide a [...]

Since 2001, Rhizome has awarded commissions to contemporary artists for the creation of internet-based art. The commission includes a grant and support in the form of promotion, preservation, and exhibition. Today we are proud to present the eleven works completed in our 2006-07 cycle. While there was no required theme for these pieces, many share concerns that situate them within the spirit of our time. For example, some use participatory systems to explore the behavior patterns of internet users, as is the case with ‘SLOWmail,’ a ‘new email service that deliberately slows down the pace of electronic messaging’ in order to modify the speed of communication between sender and recipient, and ‘Real Costs,’ which calls attention to the environmental cost of traveling via a ‘Firefox plug-in that inserts emissions data into travel related e-commerce website.’ Informed by sensitive state intelligence, the Institute for Applied Autonomy and Trevor Paglen’s ‘Terminal Air’ [...]

MyNovel.org (2006) is an interactive work that takes six classic novels (Moby Dick, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, The Scarlet Letter, Lolita, 1984, and On The Road) and compresses them into four sentences apiece; these four-sentence novels play out against a shifting series of Flash background movies. At any point, if visitors wish to, they can write their own four-sentence novel by using the tools included on the site. These new novels, written by the viewers, remain on the site for others to read and interact with.

IT SEEMS INCREDIBLE TODAY, BUT LITTLE OVER A DECADE AGO Porsche was in
serious danger of collapse. In 1993, it sold just 14,000 cars, down
from 53,000 in 1986, and in 1991 lost around $150 million. Enter
Wendelin Wiedeking. An engineer by trade, he came to Porsche in 1992 as
head of its production and materials department. He had traveled to
Japan and seen how car companies there ran their production lines;
Porsche, in comparison, was back in the Middle
Ages. Virtually everything was made by hand in-house, which brought the
benefits of fine craftsmanship, but the downside of terrible
inefficiency and occasional sloppy workmanship.
Brashly promising to deliver a 30 percent reduction in production
costs, Wiedeking brought in a team of Japanese time and motion experts
from Toyota to ruthlessly pull apart the existing system. He
benchmarked the entire production process. Then, he cut the number of
managers by 35 percent and fired 95 percent of the sales and marketing
managers, in his version [...]

Meet in front of the State House on Boston Common at the 20-foot picnic blanket.
Food & drink on hand, but please bring something of your own to share.

What is the Commons?
“The commons is an emerging new paradigm for understanding how groups of people can create and preserve value in more sustainable ways. Unlike the conventional market paradigm, the commons consists of a diverse set of models rooted in social norms and ecological principles. A growing number of scholars, activists and policymakers is beginning to recognize the power of [...]

By the age of 12, Vitus (played by real-life piano prodigy Teo Gheorghiu) is a highly gifted musician whose parents have high hopes for him in a career as a classical pianist. The daily pressure of hours of musical practice, his over-protective but well-meaning mother (Julika Jenkins) and his father’s (Urs Jucker) precarious financial situation lead the boy to seek refuge at his eccentric grandfather’s (Bruno Ganz) house.Directed by: Fredi M.
