The music video for Mariah Carey’s recent single, “Touch My Body,” begins like many classic pornos: Unwitting nerd rings doorbell, half-naked bombshell babe answers the door, contracted labor assignment is soon interrupted by a romantic interlude with a thumping soundtrack…The song is Carey’s foray into reaching out to the the geek set, and includes references to software upgrades, laser tag, and of course…YouTube! The video has over sixteen-million hits on the video-sharing site and, naturally, all of this makes the piece very attractive to an artist like Oliver Laric, who has a keen interest in digital culture and pop remixes. The artist’s newest piece is an edit of Carey’s video, with everything (the “compunerd,” the house, etc) but the singer masked out in green to encourage chroma-keyed remixes by online viewers. Ironically, Carey’s lyrics speak not only to a mainstream paranoia about surveillance and privacy intrusions, but moreover drops hints [...]

“A performance art experiment… using Hell as a backdrop.”
Hell’s Belles is a multi-media collaborative performance with Kiki
Blood and Shana Robbins. It is an experiment revolving around the body
and the psychology of holding and activating space. Personal
boundaries are crossed, creating shared aesthetics, reactionary
tension, and levels of intimacy. New symbols will arise through
opposing sexuality, fashion, meta-physical activity, discomfort,
voice, and other related tools found in performance art.

It is risky to try to express luxury for an 18-28-year-old, wealthy
male audience — and not turn them totally off. Rafael de Cardenas of
New York’s Architecture at Large (http://www.architectureatlarge.com/) took on this challenge with the rebuilding of Ubiq Philadelphia, the destination of choice for sneakerheads from far and wide.As
sneakers and streetwear do not lend themselves all that well to
wine-colored velvet or chandeliers, de Cardenas approached the redesign
of the large store with a cold and bold, simplified black-and-white
palette. Hard, black-lacquered surfaces, op-inspired patterns, harsh
lighting and simplified displays mix with beautiful detailing and white
ceilings and floors.Thrown
into the mix is a posh back room, where streetwear is displayed in a
traditional gentlemen’s tailor room complete with dark-wood panels,
antique furnishings, restored Victorian plasterwork and a magnificent,
restored mahogany fireplace. It is all a nice fusion of mansion and
showroom, inviting and cold, pared-down and rich. With his approach, de

Performa seeks a motivated individual to take up a very part-time independent internship to do research and pre-production work on an art & technology project for the PERFORMA09 Biennial, November 1-22, 2009. The project requires researching new trends in materials, technology and engineering and connecting Performa and artists with these resources.
Performa is a non-profit interdisciplinary arts organization founded by RoseLee Goldberg to commission and present new performance work in the visual arts. Drawing upon the rich history of performance in New York City, Performa provides a vibrant context to expand the possibilities and accessibility of live performance for artists and audiences ([url]www.performa-arts.org[/url]).

This Saturday, 28th of June people in Edmonton will be challenged to be without their cell phones for 24 hours. Installation „A day without a mobile-phone“ is made up of cell phones collected from people in Edmonton. The phones form a net by being hung in the Big Tent in front of City Government.
It all takes place in the program of the Works Art & Design Festival.[/b]

[b]An international competition for electro-acoustic music and video[/b]
The Leonor Hirsch Award is a new competition open to living artists of all ages and nationalities which aims to promote the creation of avant-garde culture through music and image. Submissions will be mixed media works of electro-acoustic music with a visual component in video. The Award is administered by the Bunge y Born Foundation. The award will be a single, non-divisible prize of $10,000. The winner will be selected from three finalists, whose works will all be performed at a closing concert. The costs of transportation to the city of Buenos Aires will be covered for the performing finalists.
